My Contribution

I conceived and coordinated the festival with Isabel Cavalcanti, contributing to its curatorial concept, institutional articulation, programming and production development. My work involved bringing together artistic and academic perspectives on Beckett’s work, helping to structure a multidisciplinary programme that connected theatre practice, research, performance and international cultural exchange. I also participated as a performer in the staged reading of Embers, directed by Aderbal Freire-Filho.

Project Overview

Beckett Festival: 100 Years of Samuel Beckett was a major cultural and academic festival held in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate the centenary of Samuel Beckett. Conceived and presented at Centro Cultural Telemar (now Oi Futuro), with a parallel film programme at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), the festival brought together artists, scholars, directors, actors and researchers through staged readings, workshops, performances, film screenings, debates and lectures. The programme featured leading Brazilian artists and intellectuals alongside internationally renowned guests, including Enoch Brater, President of the Samuel Beckett Society, and Marjorie Perloff, then Professor at Stanford University. The festival also received international recognition, with its achievements highlighted in The Beckett Circle, the journal of the Samuel Beckett Society.
